HOW TO STENCIL

Check out our blog:  How To - Marie's Upcycled Dressing Table

In order to repeat the pattern you simply overlay the stencil onto previously painted pattern.  See images for more details.

Hold the stencil in place using using some decorator's tape and your hands in some cases.

You can use any paint for stencilling but we tend to use either wall emulsion paint or chalk paints for our furniture projects.  Make sure the base you are stencilling on has been prepped, sanded and a base coat applied first.

Apply the paint using either a small dense foam roller or a stencil brush but don't forget to follow the 'Less Is More' rule - see below.

Once stencilled seal your furniture to protect all your hard work!  I love using furniture wax on my pieces but you can use a varnish or other appropriate sealer.
Then you're all done!  Cuppa time :)

Basic stencil instructions are included with each purchase but do get in touch if you need any more help.

LESS IS MORE!
The number one mistake most people make when stencilling for the first time is using way too much paint, this leads to bleeding under the stencil, and no one wants fuzzy lines! It’s surprising how little paint you actually need. Apply a small amount of paint to your roller, and then roll off any excess paint on a scrap bit of paper/card. Your sponge needs to be touch dry, so paint only comes through when you apply pressure. The same applies when using a stencil brush. Practice first on some spare paper or card before attempting your project.
