UNROLLING YOUR STENCIL

If you are one of our lovely overseas customers, your stencil has been curled up in the postal tube for quite some time, so it will need straightening out.

Just roll your stencil in the opposite way to how it was packaged. Use the paper enclosed to protect your stencil, avoid bending back any small areas of the design that could catch.

PRACTICE FIRST

If you are new to stencilling make sure you practice first to perfect your technique. You will be surprised at how little paint is actually needed. Less is definitely more!

The biggest mistake people make is using too much paint, so don’t be tempted to skip this step.
Practice makes perfect!

SO, LETS GET CRACKING

Position your stencil and secure with decorator’s masking tape.

Now the exciting part...applying the paint!
The best paint to use would be a water-based wall emusion paint as it is easy to clean. But you can use others paints too!

For larger areas we would use a small dense foam roller. For trickier areas, edges and corners we would use either a small sponge or a stencil brush.

If you are stencilling a rough surface such as concrete, you might find a roller does not get the paint into the rougher surface. Try using a large stencil brush so you can ‘stab’ the paint into the stonework.

AND REPEAT

There are parts of the stencil design that you can use to repeat the stencil pattern evenly. If you are unsure what these are please refer to the product images on our website.

Position the repeat sections on the stencil over the top of the matching areas on the previously painted area. For Tile and Patio stencils there are no repeats - just align to the tile/slab.

Repeat this process and watch your masterpiece come to life!

KEEP CLEAN

When paint builds up on the stencil it can cause the paint to bleed and your lines may start to become blurry.

Maybe have some wipes to hand and periodically wipe your stencil as you work.

Once you have finished your project you can soak your stencil in some warm soapy water and the paint should easily rub off.

If you are using more robust paint then it is best to wipe as you work. It is much harder to clean layers of paint off the stencil than just one or two.
